AI Agent Security Tools Compared: Parse, Lakera, Prompt Security, and Pangea
If you are evaluating prompt injection protection or agent security tooling, you have probably encountered four names: Lakera, Prompt Security, Pangea, and Parse. Each takes a different approach to the same underlying problem — securing AI agents against prompt injection, data exfiltration, and tool abuse.
This comparison is written by the Parse team. We have a point of view, and we are upfront about it. But the goal here is not to declare a winner — it is to help you understand the trade-offs so you can choose the tool that fits your context. We will cover what each tool does well, where it falls short, and which buyer each is built for.

Lakera
Company: Founded 2021, Zurich, Switzerland. ~$32M+ total funding (Series A led by Atomico).
Core product: Lakera Guard — a real-time LLM/agent security API focused on prompt injection detection, jailbreak prevention, and data leakage protection. Also offers Lakera Red (AI red teaming) and Lakera Workforce AI Security (shadow AI discovery and DLP).
Strengths
- Strongest prompt injection detection brand. Lakera has built significant mind-share as the go-to name for prompt injection detection, with academic roots at ETH Zurich.
- EU data residency. Defaults to EU hosting, which matters for GDPR-conscious buyers and EU enterprises.
- Enterprise feature set. SSO, RBAC, SIEM integration, self-hosting options, and configurable policies.
- Red teaming platform. Lakera Red provides structured adversarial testing capabilities.
- Community tier. 10k requests/month free with reasonable limits.
Weaknesses
- No compliance framework mapping. Lakera positions as security infrastructure, not as a compliance enabler. The "unblock the deal" use case is unaddressed.
- Enterprise sales friction. Beyond the free tier, everything requires talking to sales. No published per-request pricing for mid-tier teams.
- Security and workforce monitoring are separate products. Agent security and employee AI usage monitoring are not unified, which creates integration overhead.
- EU-centric positioning. While this is an advantage in the EU, it can be a friction point for US-centric or global teams expecting US-first infrastructure.
Best fit for
Large enterprises — especially EU-based — that need a dedicated prompt injection detection API with strong academic credentials and are willing to go through enterprise sales.
Prompt Security
Company: Founded 2022, Tel Aviv / San Francisco. ~$23M+ raised pre-acquisition. Now merged with SentinelOne.
Core product: Emi Platform — GenAI security covering employee-use scenarios (shadow AI discovery, DLP) and application-embedded scenarios (prompt scanning, response scanning). Open-source tools include ClawSec (secure AI agent skills) and Armor (prompt injection detection).
Strengths
- SentinelOne distribution. Being part of SentinelOne gives Prompt Security access to one of the largest XDR distribution channels in cybersecurity.
- SOC-centric features. AI asset discovery, real-time monitoring, and SOC/SIEM integration make it natural for security operations teams already using SentinelOne.
- Deep research output. Strong blog content, threat reports, and taxonomy work. The team produces genuinely useful security research.
- Open-source tools. ClawSec and Armor provide value to the community and build goodwill.
Weaknesses
- SentinelOne absorption risk. As the product integrates into SentinelOne's XDR suite, it may lose independent brand identity and startup velocity. Roadmap decisions may be driven by the parent company's platform strategy rather than customer needs.
- SOC-centric, not developer-centric. Designed for security analysts using SOC dashboards, not for agent builders integrating screening into their runtime. The API ergonomics for developers are secondary to the SOC console experience.
- No compliance mapping. Focused on threat detection within an SOC context, not on compliance enablement for agent deployments.
- Opaque pricing. No public pricing. Everything requires a sales conversation.
Best fit for
Enterprise organizations already invested in the SentinelOne ecosystem that want GenAI security integrated into their existing SOC workflow.
Pangea
Company: Founded 2021, Palo Alto, CA. ~$70M+ total funding (Series B led by GV/Google Ventures, with CrowdStrike as strategic investor).
Core product: Pangea AI Security Platform — a broad suite of guardrail services including Prompt Guard, Redact, Domain Intel, File Scan, Embargo, IP Intel, URL Intel, Audit, and AI Detection & Response (AIDR). Deployable via gateway, browser plugin, or in-app SDK.
Strengths
- Broadest guardrail SDK suite. If you want modular security services — prompt guard, file scanning, embargo checking, URL intelligence — Pangea offers the most comprehensive individual-service catalog.
- Developer-friendly SDK. Available as an in-app SDK, gateway, or browser plugin. Integration is genuinely a few lines of code for individual services.
- Certifications. SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27701 — the strongest certification posture among the four.
- CrowdStrike partnership. Strategic distribution through CrowdStrike's marketplace.
- Research depth. The team publishes novel prompt injection research (LegalPwn, interactive taxonomy).
Weaknesses
- Platform sprawl. The sheer number of services (Prompt Guard, Redact, Domain Intel, File Scan, Embargo, IP Intel, URL Intel, Audit, AIDR) can be overwhelming for a buyer who just wants agent security. It is not obvious which combination of services you need.
- No compliance framework mapping. Pangea provides guardrails, not compliance. There is no built-in mapping to EU AI Act or NIST AI RMF requirements.
- Platform sprawl. The modular SDK spans eight-plus individual services; assembling and maintaining a guardrail stack across them is integration work you own.
- AIDR overlaps with SOC tools. The AI Detection & Response product competes with existing SOC tooling, which can create friction for organizations that already have a SIEM/SOAR stack.
- CrowdStrike dependency. Distribution is heavily tied to the CrowdStrike ecosystem, which may not be relevant for buyers outside that network.
Best fit for
Development teams that want to pick and choose individual guardrail services (prompt guard, file scanning, etc.) and are comfortable assembling their own security stack from modular components.
Parse
Company: Independent. Built for AI agencies, engineering teams, and developers deploying autonomous agents.
Core product: An API-first prompt protection service with three core endpoints — input screening (/v1/parse), output screening (/v1/screen-output), and agent trust verification (/v1/agent/trust/verify). Includes a policy engine, compliance dashboard, SIEM forwarding, audit logging, and MCP server integration.
Strengths
- Compliance-first positioning. Parse is the only tool in this comparison that explicitly maps its security controls to compliance frameworks (EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF). The compliance dashboard and evidence pack features are designed to unblock enterprise procurement, not just block attacks.
- Developer self-serve with transparent pricing. Published Free → Pro → Team → Enterprise ladder. No sales conversation required to start.
- Agent-native design. Built from the ground up for agent boundaries (input, output, handoff), not retrofitted from a chatbot moderation tool. MCP server support and x402 pay-per-call access reflect agent-native thinking.
- Honest limitations disclosure. Parse publishes its security limitations publicly — what the controls do and do not prevent. This builds trust during security reviews.
- Multi-layer detection pipeline. Pattern matching (100+ normalization-aware rules), structural risk analysis, LLM semantic analysis, and optional sandbox execution.
Weaknesses
- SOC 2 is in progress. Unlike Lakera and Pangea, which hold SOC 2 certification, Parse's SOC 2 is not yet complete. This can be a blocker for enterprises with hard certification requirements. (We are transparent about this — it is on the roadmap, not yet shipped.)
- Smaller brand recognition. Lakera has more mind-share as the prompt injection detection name. Parse is newer and less established in the market.
- Narrower service catalog. Unlike Pangea's broad guardrail suite (file scanning, embargo, IP intelligence), Parse is focused on prompt protection. If you need those additional guardrail services, you would use Pangea alongside Parse.
- Less enterprise feature maturity. SSO, RBAC, and enterprise governance features may be less mature than what Lakera and Pangea offer for large enterprise deployments.
- Not a red teaming platform. Parse is a screening and detection tool, not an adversarial testing platform. If you need red teaming capabilities, Lakera Red is more purpose-built for that.
Best fit for
AI agencies, engineering teams, and developers who need to deploy agents into enterprise environments and need the compliance evidence to unblock procurement — without going through enterprise sales.
How to choose
The right choice depends on who you are and what you need:
Choose Lakera if you are a large enterprise (especially EU-based) that needs a dedicated prompt injection detection API with strong academic credentials and can navigate enterprise sales. You value brand recognition and EU data residency.
Choose Prompt Security if you are already on the SentinelOne platform and want GenAI security integrated into your existing SOC workflow. Your primary users are security analysts, not agent developers.
Choose Pangea if you are a developer who wants to assemble a custom guardrail stack from modular services and you value certifications (SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001). You are comfortable integrating multiple individual services.
Choose Parse if you are an AI agency or engineering team deploying agents into enterprise environments and need compliance evidence to unblock procurement. You value transparent pricing and developer self-serve.
On honesty in security comparisons
We wrote this comparison because we believe the AI agent security market is better served by honest, detailed analysis than by marketing that declares a single winner. Every tool in this comparison has real strengths. Every tool has real limitations — including ours.
The worst outcome for a buyer is choosing a tool based on incomplete information, deploying it, and discovering the gaps during a security incident. The best outcome is choosing the tool whose strengths match your needs and whose weaknesses you can compensate for.
